Fun in Washington DC

I
The George Washington Masonic Memorial
Well, this past weekend, I went down to Washington DC with 13 other members of Mt Zion and Jerusalem Lodges to visit the George Washington Masonic Memorial and Sojourner Kilwinning Lodge #1798,  which is a Scottish Constitution Lodge that is located in Washington.  It was a memorable weekend for many reasons.

It was my first visit to the George Washington Masonic Memorial, and I was not disappointed.  It is an amazing place.  The many artifacts are fascinating.  One of my favorites was the actual trowel that Wor. Bro. Washington used for the cornerstone laying at the US Capital.  There was also a chair that Wor. Bro. Washington donated to Alexandria Washington Lodge, and it is under glass, except for the lodge's installation, as that serves as the new Master's chair that night.

That night we went to Sojourner Kilwinning Lodge #1798 for a Fellowcraft Degree.  As they are a Scottish Constitution Lodge, their ritual was quite different from our ritual in New Jersey.  But what wasn't different were the great lessons and truths the ritual teaches, and the brotherhood we enjoyed.  The meal that followed the degree was enjoyable and festive.  Words cannot describe it.

All in all, it was one of my most enjoyable weekends as a Mason.  I felt the Masonic connection to one of the greatest Americans in history, and enjoyed great brotherhood in the present.

Hey, it's been a while

Wow, it's been quite sometime since I've posted anything on this blog.

Masonically, a lot has happened to me. At the end of April, I was installed as District Ritual Instructor (DRI) for the 2nd Masonic District, Grand Lodge of NJ. that has been keeping me pretty busy, especially since my Grand Lodge of Instruction, which is June 17 in Ramsey.

I'll try and use this blog to record my thoughts and experiences as a DRI. I enjoy doing ritual, and I love teaching it. While the job has kept me busy, I've loved it so far.

I'll try and post more often, especially since I got an iPhone in December and I can post stuff anytime.

That's all for now.

MM Degree at Jerusalem Lodge

Great night at Jerusalem Lodge in Plainfield!!  We raised 4 new brothers, three from Jerusalem, and one from Azure-Masada!!  The Degree work was outstanding.  Cudos to John Lashley for putting together a great team.  Mike Emerson did a great job with the lecture, his first in open lodge.  All of the Worshipful Masters from the 10th District were in attendance.  It was just a great night to be a Mason!!

Veteran, Brother, POW

RW Brother Hayden frequently writes in the NJ Freemasonry Yahoo! Group.  As Veterans' Day approaches, we should never forget the service of vets like RW Bro Hayden.

Freemasonry in the Wall Street Journal

Looks like Freemasonry's foray into the 21st century has made it into The Wall Street Journal!
